Installing a New Septic System - Residential or Commercial
The life span of a septic system can depend on many factors including how the system was treated. Replacing your septic system is never a project you want to face but is obviously necessary when faced with it. Hire a licensed and insured septic specialist to diagnose your systems issues and consider repair before replacement.
We at Modern Structures come from a general contracting background and have been installing new septic systems at new construction homes for decades. We know what to look for in the installation process which helps us diagnose existing systems.
Typical Septic System Issues & Problems
- Clogged drain field (Leach Field clogs) - Ensure your system gets cleaned regularly to prevent solid build up and clogs throughout.
- Bacterial Imbalance - Harsh chemicals, excessive water softener discharge or antibacterial products can disrupt the bacterial balance of a system.
- Tank Overflow - It's important to pump your septic tank regularly to prevent this.
- Component Failure - Leakage, alarm malfunctions and more can happen to older systems and should be addressed.
- Improper Disposal - Septic systems are not designed to process solid items, sanitary products, food grease and chemicals. Limiting these products entering your system will help prevent issues.
- Environmental Issues - From tree roots penetrating piping to soil erosion, there are many natural occurrences that can threaten a system.
- Age - The age and install date of a septic system or leach field are big factors of its lifespan. The average lifespan of a system typically ranges from 15-40 years. Proper care will hopefully ensure the latter.
